David Kampf's agent, JP Barry, has revealed why his client chose to sign with the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday after having his contract terminated by Toronto.
The Vancouver Canucks long-awaited acquisition of a centerman finally occurred on Saturday afternoon
when the club announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $1.1 million USD with unrestricted free agent forward David Kampf.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with forward David Kämpf on a one year, $1.1 million contract." the Canucks said.
The decision to sign Kampf came just says after the Czech forward was placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract terminated by the Toronto Maple Leafs, who assigned him to their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, in early October and after four games, decided he didn't want to play in the minors.

When speaking with Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali, JP Barry, the agent for David Kampf, said that Adam Foote and Patrik Allvin helped his client feel comfortable about his role and the opportunity he would have as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, and went on to add that the team has has his client on their radar in the past, so that interest helped him put pen-to-paper.
"The GM and coach did a great jo of explaining the fit and the opportunity in Vancouver, he has been on the Canucks radar in the past and that helped." Barry said.
"David is a very reliable two-way centre who will improve our strength and depth down the middle immediately. He is good in the faceoff dot and is a solid penalty killer, two areas of need we currently have on our team. His hockey IQ is also a big asset and we believe he will fit in nicely with our group." Allvin said.
The 30-year-old centerman is in his ninth season in the National Hockey League after spending the previous eight with the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs, registering 143 points (48 goals, 95 assists) and 115 penalty minutes in 536 games.
Kampf isn't expected to play tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but it appears his Vancouver Canucks debut could happen as early as Monday night as they take on the Florida Panthers to wrap up a three-game road trip.
