Some new information has emerged this week regarding contract demands from New Jersey Devils' Luke Hughes, who remains an RFA with two weeks until training camp opens.

We're officially less than two weeks away from training camps around the National Hockey League opening up and there are still a handful of RFAs still unsigned, most notably Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks and Luke Hughes, brother of Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes.
With the expectation is that Luke Hughes will sign before training camp begins, it's been an interesting situation to monitor and with some new information coming out about what he's looking for in a contract, it could spell some big news for the Vancouver Canucks in the years ahead.

Contract demands from New Jersey Devils RFA Luke Hughes revealed

Ryan Novozinsky of NJ.com is reporting that while the New Jersey Devils are hoping for either a three-year bridge contract for an eight-year extension, Luke Hughes' camp wants a five-year deal, which would make him an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2030, the same time as his brother and current teammate, Jack Hughes.
"The main obstacle, according to NJ.com, is that the Hughes camp wants a five-year deal, to align Luke's contract with that of brother Jack Hughes' deal. This would conceivably set up both brothers to be unrestricted free agents ahead of the 2030-31 season.

The Devils, on the other hand, want Luke Hughes to sign either a three-year bridge deal or a full eight-year extension." Sportsnet said at the end of August.

Following Jim Rutherford's comments back in April about Quinn Hughes' future with the organization and him wanting to play with his brothers one day, fans have been worried about him leaving Vancouver to join the New Jersey Devils, but is there a scenario where the Canucks could unite all three of them in British Columbia?
In a recent article for Daily Hive, Rob Williams says if the Canucks sign Quinn Hughes to a three-year extension next summer, it would line up all three brothers becoming UFAs in the same offseason and an opportunity would present itself to Vancouver to bring the trio on board.
"That would equate to Quinn signing a three-year extension with the Canucks, making him a free agent in the summer of 2030 at the age of 30. At that time, Jack would be 29, and Luke would be 26.

If they did that, the three brothers could all choose to sign in New Jersey or Vancouver, or anywhere else they like." Williams said.

How likely is that to happen? We'd probably give it a less than 5% chance, but stranger things have occurred and while the Vancouver Canucks would probably love to have all three brothers playing for them, they need to focus on having a strong 2025-26 campaign to convince Quinn Hughes to stick around and potentially sign a long-term deal next summer.
