Vancouver Canucks Source Shares Which Former First Round Pick Would be Better Fit
A Vancouver Canucks insider recently shared which former first round pick would be a better fit for the team, with another move this summer potentially in the cards.
As we inch closer and closer to training camp, which is roughly six weeks away, the Vancouver Canucks continue to monitor the free agent and trade markets to see if they can make another addition to their roster this summer.
Patrik Allvin and the team's management group have been very busy this summer, but haven't been able to land some center depth for the club just yet despite submitting numerous offers and speaking to several players,
including UFA Jack Roslovic.
"He was expecting this to take while; I'm not even 100% sure that [the Canucks have] put a solid offer in front of him yet" Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects said last week.

In a recent mailbag article on Canucks Army, Jeff Paterson was asked about the Vancouver Canucks' pursuit of Jack Roslovic this summer and their search for center help overall.
One question he was asked if he would rather sign Jack Roslovic to a three-year deal around $3.5 million annually or trade for former third overall pick
Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who is currently a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Despite being too much term and money, Paterson chose Jack Roslovic as the Canucks would need to give up assets to acquire Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who has a pretty sizable contract, which would also require Patrik Allvin to move more money out to make it all fit.
"I guess I have to go with Roslovic even through it seems like a year and $500K more than I'd like to spend. But you laid out the terms, so I'll play along. I have to say Roslovic because the only cost of acquisition is writing a cheque to sign him. To get Kotkaniemi, you'd have to give up assets and I'm not so sure I'm prepared to make that deal. Plus Kotkaniemi has five years left on his current contract at an oversized $4.82M. The Canucks would have to clear more cap space to make that deal." Paterson said.
Looking at what both players would bring to the Vancouver Canucks' lineup, Jack Roslovic seems like the easy choice for sure, especially given that he's coming off a season that he tied a career-high in goals (22).
Jesperi Kotkaniemi,
who the club has been linked to in the past, hasn't really lived up to being a top-three pick, registering just 33 points in 2024-25 - his seventh year in the NHL, so combining that with his contract situation, it wouldn't be ideal to bring him to Vancouver.
