Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin recently spoke about the contract status for forward Kiefer Sherwood as we enter the 2025-26 NHL season next week.

While the Vancouver Canucks' focus right now is on the start of the 2025-26 season and hopefully, getting off on the right foot after last year's disastrous campaign, some are already looking ahead to the future and wondering which pending UFAs the club will be able to keep around.
One pending unrestricted free agent the club has is forward Kiefer Sherwood, who is coming off a historic year after setting the NHL's new single-season hits record and a few months ago, the Canucks had preliminary discussions with him regarding an extension.
"In a recent appearance on Sportsnet 650, GM Patrik Allvin indicated that he has had preliminary discussions about a contract extension with Sherwood's camp." Pro Hockey Rumors said in July.

Since early July, not much has happened in terms of contract talks between the Vancouver Canucks and Kiefer Sherwood's camp, especially after the latter decided to change his representation at the end of August.
The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta gave an update on the matter last week, saying that nothing has materialized any beyond those preliminary discussions, adding that the Canucks do like what he brings to the club - offense and grit.
"Kiefer Sherwood had career year last season with Vancouver, scoring 19 goals and tallying 40 points. He's in the final year of his contract and while the Canucks like what he brings to the table for them, they haven't jumped into negotiations just yet." Pagnotta said.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin said to the media recently that they're not in any rush to get a deal done with Kiefer Sherwood and are hoping to see him take another step in his game this season and develop some consistency.
"For Kiefer, it's the consistency. Learning to play with structure and playing a two-way game. We know his tenacity, speed, pace, physicality and shot were really good last year. We're excited to see him take another step this year." Allvin said.

He added, "We like Kiefer a lot and he fits in with the group, but there's no rush. We continue to talk. I have a fairly good relationship with most of the agents, so nothing is really going to change here."

It's not too surprising that the Canucks haven't gone too deep in contract talks with the Columbus, Ohio native and beyond what Patrik Allvin said, the club probably wants to know whether or not last season was a one-off or if he'll be able to replicate that success before handing him a new deal with a higher salary than the $1.5 million US he's currently earning.
