Vancouver Canucks top goaltending prospect Alexei Medvedev has landed some big news ahead of the 2025-26 season, which he'll be spending with the London Knights.

The Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin appeared to hit a home run on Day 2 of the NHL Entry Draft in June when they used their second round pick to select Russian goaltender Alexei Medvedev from the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights.
The 2025 OHL and Memorial Cup champion had a solid year with London, splitting duties between the pipes with Austin Elliott, but with the latter departing the club due to being an overager and for an NCAA opportunity, the Canucks prospect is set to take over the starting reigns for the Knights this season.
On Monday, a trio of Vancouver Canucks prospects learned where they were ranked by Daily Faceoff heading into the 2025-26 season and today, one day after the London Knights opened up their training camp, it was Alexei Medvedev's turn to shine, as he was mentioned among some of the top goaltending prospects in the game.

Vancouver Canucks' Alexei Medvedev lands impressive ranking among NHL goaltending prospects

In an article for Daily Faceoff, Steven Ellis ranked Vancouver Canucks' Alexei Medvedev 16th among NHL-drafted goaltending prospects, ahead of names such as Yegor Zavragin (Philadelphia Flyers), Jakub Dobes (Montreal Canadiens) and Drew Commesso (Chicago Blackhawks).
Ellis raved about Medvedev, saying that aren't many flaws in his game and that he could see the 17-year-old in the mix to win Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Year at the end of the season.
"It was a solid goalie market at the 2025 NHL Draft, and the Canucks got one that many considered to be at the top of the list. The rookie OHLer was a huge part of London's regular season success, putting up some excellent numbers alongside CHL veteran Austin Elliott. Medvedev is a quick goalie who has a somewhat unorthodox hunch-back style, but his pure athleticism prevails more often than not. There just aren't many flaws in how he commands the crease - scouts love him. He'll be the No. 1 in London this year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him challenge for the top goaltender honors in the CHL." Ellis said.

Medvedev, a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, impressed Canucks staff at the team's Development Camp in early July, signing his three-year, entry-level contract and with the club trading Arturs Silovs to the Pittsburgh Penguins last month, there's no doubt that the London Knight takes over the title of "top goaltending prospect" in Vancouver's system.
