A Western Conference rival of the Vancouver Canucks are reportedly interested in acquiring pending unrestricted free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood as a rental.
Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood is already drawing plenty of interest on the trade market less than two weeks after he was made available by General Manager Patrik Allvin.
Since arriving in Vancouver ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, Kiefer Sherwood has taken his game to a new level, setting career-highs in goals and points last year, as well as breaking the National Hockey League's single season record for most hits, so it shouldn't come as surprise to anyone that he's drawing the most interest of anyone on the Canucks' roster right now.
Among the teams that are hoping to get their hands on Kiefer Sherwood before the trade deadline on Friday, March 6th include the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning, but it looks like one of Vancouver's Western Conference rivals has entered the mix.

During Wednesday's edition of the DFO Rundown Podcast, Irfaan Gaffar and David Pagnotta spoke about the interest in Kiefer Sherwood on the league's trade market, as well as what his next contract could look like if and when he ends up making it to free agency on Canada Day.
According to Gaffar and Pagnotta, one team to watch in the Kiefer Sherwood sweepstakes is the Dallas Stars, however it appears that General Manager Jim Nill is only interested in bringing the Columbus, Ohio native in as a rental at this time, while other teams around the league want to sign him to a contract extension after acquiring him.
In terms of what Kiefer Sherwood's next contract could look like, Gaffar and Pagnotta believe that he could be looking at $25-30 million total, but only if he's able to reach the 25-30 goal mark this season, which is pretty realistic at this point given he's already at 12 with 55 games remaining.
It's going to be very interesting to see what the return could be for Kiefer Sherwood in the months to come, with some reports suggesting that General Manager Patrik Allvin is seeking at least a first round pick.
With the amount of teams that are interested in Kiefer Sherwood at this point, Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks' front office should have no issue landing a first round pick, but a lot can change between now and trade deadline day in early March.
