A Western Conference team has entered the mix to acquire Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood, who is expected to be moved ahead of the deadline in early March.

Ever since the Vancouver Canucks made all of their pending unrestricted free agents available on the National Hockey League's trade block, teams have been lining up for their chance to acquire forward Kiefer Sherwood, who has taken his career to a new level since arriving in the Lower Mainland in the summer of 2024.
After setting career highs in goals, assists, points, and even breaking the NHL's record for most hits in a single season during the 2024-25 campaign, Sherwood has followed that up with an impressive start to the year, with a team-leading 16 goals in 36 games.
"Kiefer Sherwood. I just wanted to say that despite Sherwood scoring one goal in 13 games, a bunch of teams are still in on him. Canucks should move this guy sooner than later, start a clean slate. You know they're not signing him. The Canucks don't want to go past $3-3.5 million for Sherwood, you know he's going to get more on July 1st. There's a bunch of teams in on him because his salary is low, $1.5 million. Canucks are still trying to get a first rounder for him." NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal said earlier this month about interest in Kiefer Sherwood.

In a recent article for The Athletic, NHL insiders Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston spoke about Kiefer Sherwood and where he could end up ahead of the March 6th trade deadline and one team mentioned as a potential fit is the Dallas Stars.
With the Vancouver Canucks set to enter a bit of a rebuild/retooling phase, the team is hoping to get younger players in return for their pending unrestricted free agents, and one player that Patrik Allvin could target is 23-year-old Mavrik Bourque.
"I wonder if the Stars would entice the Canucks with 23-year-old forward Mavrik Bourque? The 30th pick from the 2020 NHL Draft hasn't quite measured up yet to the offensive potential he showed in the AHL in 2023-24 (77 points in 71 games). The Canucks are seeking younger players as they continue their post-Quinn Hughes roster retool.

I'm not sure if Bourque is the answer, but I do think there's a match here somehow between the Stars and Canucks." LeBrun said.

A deal involving Kiefer Sherwood, assuming he's able to sustain his current level of play, will likely net the Vancouver Canucks a first round pick, along with another piece, and while the Dallas Stars would be a good trade partner for Patrik Allvin to work with, they do lack that asset the organization truly desires.
