A former Vancouver Canucks forward is set to have his contract terminated in the National Hockey League after clearing waivers on Friday morning.

It was a very busy summer for several former Vancouver Canucks as some, like goaltender Michael DiPietro, signed new deals in the National Hockey League, while others opted to head overseas to Europe to continue their respective careers, including Spencer Martin, who signed with CSKA Moscow (KHL), Collin Delia, who signed with Brynas IF (SHL) and defenseman Madison Bowey.
One former Vancouver Canucks forward decided to return to North America after an impressive season in the Kontinental Hockey League, but after just six games in the AHL, looks like a return to Europe is in the cards.

Former Vancouver Canucks forward has NHL contract terminated

On Thursday morning, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman announced that the Washington Capitals were placing forward Sheldon Rempal on waivers, which raised some eyebrows given that he was already in the American Hockey League.
A short while later, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network revealed that the reason why Washington placed the 30-year-old on waivers was to terminate his contract.
El-Bashir added that Rempal wanted to pursue another opportunity overseas in Europe and the Washington Capitals were willing to accommodate his wishes.
"This move is for the purpose of contract termination. The #ALLCAPS accommodated the player's desire to pursue opportunities overseas." El-Bashir said on X.
Rempal, a native of Calgary, Alberta, signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Washington Capitals back in July and just before the 2025-26 season began, he was placed on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to the American Hockey League.
In six games with the Hershey Bears, Washington's AHL affiliate, Rempal had two points (one goal, one assist), two penalty minutes and was a minus-two.
At this time, it's unclear what Rempal's plans are and where he's going to sign next, but after putting up 61 points (31 goals, 30 assists) in 68 games with Ufa Salavat Yulayev in the KHL last season, it wouldn't be a surprise to anyone if he returned there for a second year.
