LATEST | Willander reveals who he models his game after: It's extremely promising for the Canucks
The Canucks went out of their way at the draft to put their hands on the Swede Tom Willander. Allvin and his scouting team were extremely satisfied to put their hands on the defenseman, the third one to walk up to the stage after David Reinbacher and Dimitry Simashev.
The Canucks' top pick faced many questions since the teams have kicked off their summers, and one that may reveal what to expect of the young man. He was asked who he models his game after, and the 18-year-old's answer gives promising vibes for the Nucks:
Miro Heiskanen, an extremely talented Fin defenseman who currently lines up with the Stars, is growing into one of the game's best defencemen. He was selected 3rd in 2017, before Cale Makar and Elias Pettersson. The Stars had a steep playoff run in which he played an essential part; he's coming off a stellar season in which he managed 73 points in 79 games.
Described as an elite two-way defender, as pointed out by the former scout Patrik Pettrin, this may be the mock-ups of Quinn Hughes' ideal partner.
