While on his way home from Saturday's game, 16-year-old Colin Brown was shot by a random stranger as his dad drove along Interstate 55 in St. Louis.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police released a statement on the weekend, confirming that a 16-year-old was shot through the window of his family's SUV and that his father called 911, where they were met a short while later by law enforcement and EMS.
"Officers responded to a Shooting-Just occurred on Interstate 55 near the construction zone.
The driver of the vehicle told the dispatcher that someone shot into his SUV on the interstate and that his 16-year-old son had been shot. The man continued to drive to the area of 4th and Walnut where he was met by police and EMS.
EMS transported the 16-year-old to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition." St. Louis Metropolitan Police said.
Brown's high school hockey team released a statement on their social media on Sunday asking for prayers for their teammate and his family, with a prayer service being held yesterday morning.
"We ask for prayers for Colin, his family, and for the medical team overseeing his care and recovery." The post said according to Fox 2 Now. Colin Brown's father took to Facebook after the incident to say that more needs to be done to help police in St. Louis and surrounding areas to combat these crimes.
"We believe that greater efforts are needed in the City of St. Louis and the surrounding region to support the police and equip them with the necessary tools to combat such senseless, violent gun crimes." Colin Brown's father said.
