The 21-year-old defenceman was the Ducks' 4th-round selection in the 2019 NHL draft, 101st overall. The Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek has been trying to sign Thrun to his NHL entry-level contract, but Thrun who's been playing for the University of Harvard in the NCAA.
Thrun has reportedly no interest in signing with the Anaheim Ducks and will be hitting the free-agent market this off-season. However, by Thrun reviling his intentions not to sign with the Duck, Verbeek has until August 15th to use him as a trade asset to move him to a team he might have a mutual interest in signing Thrun.
This is an unfortunate situation for the Ducks with Thrun looking like he could be a solid NHL defenseman one day. It makes you think with the list of players that have opted out of signing with the team they were drafted to, it makes you wonder do these young prospects have too much freedom.
