Some potential center targets have begun to emerge for Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin to consider on the trade market in the weeks & months ahead.

This summer didn't go exactly how the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin might have wanted and while they were able to get some nice pieces, including Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers, one big area they weren't able to address was down the middle, specifically the second line center position.
Last month, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported that the Vancouver Canucks didn't get very close to bringing in a second line centerman during the summer, leaving Patrik Allvin to continue his search in-season.
"I wish I had some sexy names to throw at you. I don't. Nothing that was overly impactful or anything that felt like it was getting close. I'm sure like every team, you do your due diligence, that's part of your job, you go out there, you poke around, you start to...like around that time of year you hear names that team's are necessarily shopping, but teams are poking around on and they kind of let that name kind of get out there a little bit and it leads to nothing, because there's nothing there." Pagnotta said.

He added, "I think the Canucks certainly tried to, you know, comb the market and see what was out there in terms of the center position. I just don't think they got close on anything."

Potential trade targets begin to emerge for Vancouver Canucks & GM Patrik Allvin

In a recent article for The Hockey News, Adam Kierszenblat discussed potential trade targets for the Vancouver Canucks this season and among them is Calgary Flames centerman Nazem Kadri - a former Stanley Cup champion who plays with grit and has 711 points in 987 career games in the NHL.
Along with Kadri, Kierszenblat mentions a pair of pending unrestricted free agents as options for Allvin to consider, depending on if their respective clubs are out of the playoff picture in the months ahead, with those players being Jean-Gabriel Pageau of the New York Islanders and Alex Wennberg of the San Jose Sharks.
"As for potential players, bringing in a center to add depth has to be at the top of the Canucks list. Based on teams that are projected to be near the bottom of the standings, some potential trade options could be Jean-Gabriel Pageau or Alex Wennberg. As for a non-pending unrestricted free agent, one player who would fit Vancouver's system is Nazem Kadri, who is signed for four more years at $7 million per season." Kierszenblat said.

While all three would be great options, Nazem Kadri would certainly be at the top of Vancouver's list, however, his contract might be tough for Patrik Allvin to add unless money is going back to Calgary in a potential deal, whether that be the Flames retaining salary or the club taking on a bad contract.
Alex Wennberg, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, is an interesting name to keep an eye on leading up to the trade deadline as it's widely expected he'll be dealt, if the Sharks are out of playoff contention, which most likely will be the case.
Wennberg is going to draw a ton of interest and with a salary of $5 million, which the Sharks would be more than willing to retain 50% on, it could be an intriguing option for Patrik Allvin, especially if he can play at the pace he did in San Jose last season, where he finished with 35 points in 77 games.
