COACHING CHANGE: GM Allvin explains the reasons for their new hires
The Vancouver Canucks have just made the announcement that Tocchet would be taking over as the team's head coach and that Sergei Gonchar and Adam Foote would assist him. Allvin shared his thoughts on coaching staff change.
Tocchet, has close to 20 years of experience on the bench in the NHL and 18 years as a player. He was most recently the Arizona Coyotes head coach for four straight years, where he previously met
Oliver Ekman-Larsson and
Conor Garland. Here are the comments of the team's GM Patrik Allvin on his new signing:
''Rick Tocchet brings a wealth of knowledge to this team from both a coach and player perspective As a player, he displayed a high level of character, grit, and intensity, while recording impressive offensive numbers.''
Tocchet has previous ties with Allvin and Rutherford since they were all part of the staff that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2017 and 2018 in Pittsburgh. Sergei Gonchar was also part of the group, and here's what Allvin added on the two assistants:
''We are also excited about the additions of Adam Foote and Sergei Gonchar to our coaching staff. Both individuals enjoyed long, successful playing careers as NHL defencemen and together provide a wide range of expertise on both sides of the puck. Tocchet, Foote, and Gonchar all bring a championship pedigree to the organization and we look forward to welcoming them to Vancouver."
Foote and Gonchar had quite the career as players as well, both of them are Stanley Cup winners and played through different times and styles of play. Foote's sons Nolan and Cal are former 1st Round Picks and are making their way to the NHL as we speak, he definitely knows how to handle the new generation of players.
The team announced that they'll be holding a press conference at 13:00 to discuss the matter. Up to this point, no one has asked the team's upper management to comment on the way Bruce Boudreau was treated through that sequence.
