A former Vancouver Canucks defenceman could be a hot commodity on the trade market as we head towards the deadline in March.

On Tuesday's edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Darren Dreger reported that former Canucks defenceman Chris Tanev is drawing interest from another Canadian team - the Ottawa Senators.
"Well, there are multiple teams that are in the mix. Of late, it seems to be the Ottawa Senators. I can tell you that the Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs most definitely have a keen interest in Tanev.

Ottawa, I think, looks at Tanev as being a foundational fit, which tells us It's not just about the trade, it's about the contract extension that would likely have to happen after they acquired Tanev.

There are lots of teams that remain interested, including non-playoff teams like the Senators and some other contending teams as well."

Tanev, 34, spent the first ten years of his National Hockey League career with the Canucks, before moving on to Calgary, where he's been for the last four seasons.

So far this season, the Toronto native has appeared in 46 games where he's recorded nine points (one goal, eight assists), ten penalty minutes and is a plus-seven.

There's going to be plenty of interest in Chris Tanev over the next few weeks and it'll be interesting to see if the Canucks re-enter the mix to try and bring him back to Vancouver.
