LATEST | Big, gritty winger about to walk free in Ottawa: Precisely what the Canucks could use
The Ottawa Senators became the latest team on Tuesday to announce which restricted free agents on their roster will receive a qualifying offer, as well as those who won't, making them unrestricted free agents.
One name that stands out among the others that didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Senators was 25-year-old winger Julien Gauthier, who was a former first-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes back in 2016.
Gauthier, a native of Pointe-aux-Trembles, Quebec, is a big body at 6'4", 224 pounds and plays a gritty style of game, making him a perfect fit for the Canucks as a third or fourth line option.
It's unlikely that Gauthier's contract will cost a lot nor will there be any significant term attached, so Patrik Allvin could offer him a one-year deal at the league minimum or slightly above. On his last contract, Gauthier made $800,000 and had a qualifying offer, which the Senators declined to issue, of $840,000.
Should the Canucks try to add Gauthier to give their lineup a bit of size and bite on the third line? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below!
