LATEST | Latest report shows which landing spot for Connor Bedard would cause the biggest chaos
The National Hockey League's draft lottery is set to be held on Monday, with the Anaheim Ducks having the best odds at landing the first overall pick.
The hype surrounding
Connor Bedard is real and it's not often a player of his talent comes along, but which city would have their fans be sent into a frenzy for him? Well, Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff decided to do a ranking. Larkin's list includes 11 teams and the criteria he uses for his 'chaos' ranking is - A) upsetting the league's power balance and B) sending multiple fan bases into a panic.
When it comes to the Vancouver Canucks, they land at number 2 on Larkin's list and this is what he had to say about Bedard's hometown team:
"Local boy Bedard.
Elias Pettersson.
Quinn Hughes.
Thatcher Demko.
Andrei Kuzmenko. That would be quite the quintet of core stars for a Canucks team that found its footing late in the 2022-23 season under new coach Rick Tocchet. As a Canuck, Bedard would also be joining a team surrounded by drama and trade rumors involving forwards
J.T. Miller and
Brock Boeser. And it's a Canadian market to boot sharing a division with McDavid's Edmonton Oilers. Oh, the storylines! Bedard to the Canucks checks pretty much every Chaos box."
While the odds are certainly against them, with only a 3% chance of selecting first overall, stranger things have happened and it would be great for not only the Canucks, but also the National Hockey League to have Bedard play for a Canadian market.
At number 1 on Larkin's list was the Montreal Canadiens, who selected first overall last year - taking
Juraj Slafkovsky. The Canadiens currently have the fifth-best odds at landing the first overall pick this year at 8.5%.
The NHL's Draft Lottery can be viewed on Sportsnet in Canada and NHL Network in the United States beginning at 8 p.m. ET on May 8th.
