Lanny McDonald Fights Back Tears with Emotional Tribute to Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau at the HHOF Ceremony
During this years 2024 Hall-of-Fame induction ceremony, Hockey Hall of Famer and chairman, Lanny McDonald fought back tears delivering an emotional tribute to the beloved Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
An August 29th,a day before their sisters wedding in their hometown of New Jersey, the NHL and entire hockey community lost the amazing Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau to an alleged drunk driver.
In what is an amazing night in hockey, where the Hockey Hall-of-Fame recognizes the games best players to cement their names in history, it would be nothing if they did not give the recognition the Gaudreau Brothers brought to the hockey community.
As Lanny McDonald appeared to be trying to put on a brave face, the emotion was rushing as he described the special relationship Johnny and Matthew had with one another. He added that, Johnny, even at his size, was larger than life and there was no doubt that he would have been inducted in the Hall-of-fame one day.
"Anyone who knows the game knows Johnny would've been here some day, tonight, he and Matthew are in our thoughts and prayers."
Lanny McDonald is 100% right, Johnny and Matthew will always be in our hearts and the emptiness that has been left behind will not leave any time soon.
Everyone here at Canucks Daily wants everyone to continue to send their love, prayers and thoughts to the entire Gaudreau family during this extremely sad time. We did not just lose two amazing hockey players, but two even better brothers, sons, spouses and fathers.
