Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Jalen Chatfield has avoided supplemental discipline for a dangerous incident on Wednesday night.

The intensity of games around the National Hockey League has turned up a notch with the Stanley Cup Playoffs right around the corner and last night's game between Carolina and Washington was no exception.
Carolina ran away with the game by a score of 5-1, with Alexander Ovechkin scoring Washington's only goal of the game, however both teams combined for a whopping 142 penalty minutes - 114 of which came during the final seven minutes of the third period.

With less than five minutes remaining in the third period, yet another scrum broke out, which led to Washington's Connor McMichael and Carolina's Jalen Chatfield dropping the mitts.
During the fight, Jalen Chatfield grabbed onto McMichael's jersey, swung him over his leg and threw him down to the ice before the two were separated by the officials.
Chatfield and McMichael were handed five-minute majors for fighting and ten minute misconducts and many were calling for the former Vancouver Canuck to be suspended following the dangerous move including Craig Button of TSN.
"This is a dangerous play," Button said. "It's an intent to injure play, there's no room for it. The fact that Connor McMichael didn't get any type of an injury on this, that in of itself is good fortune... The way he whips him around over his leg, I think it has to be a suspension. There's no place for that in this sport of hockey."

On Thursday morning, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff shared on social media that the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety was not issuing any supplemental discipline to Jalen Chatfield.
"Not expecting any supplemental discipline for #Canes Jalen Chatfield from
@NHLPlayerSafety for his takedown of #allcaps Connor McMichael during their fight on Wednesday night." Seravalli said.
Thankfully, Capitals forward Connor McMichael is okay as this could've ended a whole lot worse, since his helmet was off during the fight.
Washington and Carolina are set to meet once again, next Thursday, and it's safe to say that Jalen Chatfield will have to answer from someone like Tom Wilson or Dylan McIlrath.
