Former Vancouver Canucks forward Vasily Podkolzin shared a heartfelt message on Thursday after scoring his first goal since his father passed away last month.

The last month has had its fair share of ups and downs for former Vancouver Canucks forward Vasily Podkolzin as he prepared for his second season as a member of the Edmonton Oilers.
During training camp, one day after he signed a contract extension, Podkolzin took a leave of absence from the Oilers after his father, Alexander, passed away unexpectedly.
"The Edmonton Oilers are saddened to share that Vasily Podkolzin's father Alexander tragically and suddenly passed away last night.

The forward will be taking a leave of absence to return to Russia and be with his family. The Oilers extend heartfelt condolences to Podkolzin and his family during this difficult time." the Oilers shared last month.

The Moscow native eventually returned to Edmonton in time for the start of the regular season and after registering just two assists in his first seven games, he took his game to another level during Thursday's game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Podkolzin picked up an assist in the opening frame on David Tomasek's first career goal in the National Hockey League and later on in the night, with just a little over one minute remaining in regulation, the former Canuck picked up the game winner, giving the Oilers their fourth victory of the season.
"PODKOLZIN GIVES EDMONTON THE LEAD AGAIN!"
After the game, Podkolzin met with reporters where he opened up on the passing of his father and how tough of a month it's been for himself and his family.
Podkolzin went on to shared that it was nice to finally score his first of the season and he knows that his father would be proud of him for getting on the scoresheet.
"It was a huge loss for me and my family. I thank my teammates, you guys and the fans and all the people for supporting me. It has been a tough month for me to be honest. It was nice to score and I'm sure he would be proud," Podkolzin said according to Jason Gregor of Sports 1440.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily remain with Vasily Podkolzin and his family at this difficult time.
