NHL issues a statement on former Canucks Gustav Forsling
The Stanley Cup Final between Edmonton and Florida is set to get underway in less than 48 hours with several former Canucks and ex-Canucks prospects involved.
In a post on social media on Thursday, the National Hockey League made a statement on former Vancouver Canucks defensive prospect Gustav Forsling, highlighting his journey to the Stanley Cup Final and his playoffs so far.
In their post, the NHL's Public Relations account shared that Gustav Forsling needs only one assist and two points to match franchise playoff records in each category among Florida Panthers defencemen.
"The @FlaPanthers could see franchise playoff records fall for a second straight year if Gustav Forsling continues to find the scoresheet in the #StanleyCup Final. #NHLStats" The NHL said.
They added, "Gustav Forsling (4-7--11 in 17 GP), who signed an 8-year contract extension in March, needs one assist and 2 points to match franchise records by a defencemen for a single postseason."
During Game 6 of their second-round matchup with the Boston Bruins, the NHL shared that Forsling became the first defenceman in franchise history to score a series-clinching goal. Forsling's tally, which had less than two minutes remaining in the third period, sent the Panthers to their second straight Eastern Conference Final.
"Gustav Forsling helped the @FlaPanthers get through the Second Round by becoming the first defenseman in franchise history with a series-clinching goal. #NHLStats #StanleyCup," The NHL said.
They added, "Forsling is 1 of 2 players in Panthers history with a go-ahead series-clinching goal in the last 2:00 of regulation - he came 1:33 left in Game 6 of the Second Round at BOS."
Forsling and the Florida Panthers will host Game 1 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on CBC and Sportsnet.
