Former NHL forward Sean Avery has ripped into ex-Vancouver Canuck J.T. Miller for his effort during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights earlier this week.

Before the 2025-26 season began, which happens to be their Centennial, the New York Rangers named former Vancouver Canuck J.T. Miller captain, their 29th in franchise history and so far, it hasn't gone well for both the player and the team.
The Rangers sit just outside the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference with the worst home record in the league at 1-7-1 and one of the best road records with nine wins in 12 games.
For J.T. Miller, who's in his first full season back in The Big Apple after being traded there in January, he hasn't had a great start to the 2025-26 campaign with just four goals and ten points in 21 games and recently, his effort level was called into question by former NHLer Sean Avery.

Whether it's his game analysis or bike lane videos in New York City, Sean Avery is quite passionate on social media and calls it like it, which is something fans have loved from him for years now.
Following the New York Rangers' loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night, Avery took to social media to highlight a shift that he wasn't too pleased about from captain J.T. Miller.
"Alright watch this sh*t show. Quick up, Igor Shesterkin to J.T. Miller, follow the pointer stick. J.T., dump the puck in. Nope. Mika turnover. Kiss of death, turnovers at the offensive blue line. Now we're gonna watch J.T., bottom of the screen, 8 white, the captain of the New York Rangers, come in, alright he's the low guy, responsible. Okay and then stick check, over skate, in no man's land and then look at this. Look at the straight legged f*ck right there. Five hole goal." Avery said.
Avery wasn't the only one not happy with J.T. Miller's effort on that shift as several New York Rangers fans took to social media shortly after to express their displeasure too.
"I legitimately think it's hilarious that people defended this trade as he's a «culture changer»

When trading a lottery pick for a 33 year old C when the team is trending down was always a dumb move." @NYRLouie said.
"I said it was a mistake when we traded for him that his attitude would be an issue like it's been his entire career and people tried to tell me I didn't know anything.

Now look at y'all. And no, I'm not one to say "I hate to say I told you so" because I absolutely love being right and I told y'all." @Molnar_Politico said.
"From the guy that brought you "No BS", here's some BS." Reporter Steven Pappas said.
Hopefully for the New York Rangers and their fans, J.T. Miller can step it up and take his game to the next level in the weeks to come or else the team is going to face a significant uphill climb towards their goal of reaching the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
