Unrestricted free agent forward Corey Perry is now eligible to sign with teams in the National Hockey League after he met with Gary Bettman earlier this week.

Perry was placed on unconditional waivers and had his contract terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks back in late November for what the team called unacceptable conduct in violation with his standard player contract.

Now that Perry is eligible to sign, there's no doubt going to be a lot of interest and in order to be able to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he'll need a new deal by Friday, March 8th.

At least one of those interested teams is now known. According to Carlo Coliacavo, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Perry reportedly have mutual interest in getting a contract signed.

"My understanding is that there is mutual interest between #LeafsForever   & Corey Perry & we discussed that with @mike_p_johnson"

Perry, 38, has nine points (four goals, five assists), 12 penalty minutes and was a minus-five in 16 games for the Blackhawks prior to having his contract terminated.
