SIGNING ALERT | Former first-round pick signs professional tryout contract
After spending the last few weeks as an unrestricted free agent, once again, following his release from his PTO by the Carolina Hurricanes, it appears that former first-round pick Kieffer Bellows has found a new home.
According to Nick Barden of The Hockey News, the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, an affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, have signed Kieffer Bellows to a professional tryout contract (PTO).
"#Marlies have signed Kieffer Bellows to a PTO.
The 25-year-old former first-round pick split last season between the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms."
Bellows, a native of Edina, Minnesota, was drafted 19th overall in the first round in 2016 by the New York Islanders and spent parts of four seasons in the NHL with them before being claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers last October.
Last season, Bellows appeared in 28 NHL games between the Islanders and Flyers, where he tallied three goals, six penalty minutes and was a minus-eight.
