The Canucks needed help on defense and on the penalty kill. After buying out Oliver Ekman-Larsson's hefty contract the team had roster spot to filled and money to spend and they did just that when they agreed on a three year deal with the former Seattle Kraken, Carson Soucy.
Listed at 6'05'' and 212 pounds, he's mainly known for his defensive attributes. A coveted free agent, Soucy revealed why he opted to give the best years of his careers to the Canucks' organization:
"Having Adam Foote, Sergei Gonchar, couple of legends to play for, to learn from - that was huge. And the interest and confidence they had in me."
This sets a great precedent for the Vancouver market and their next run at free agents.
Rick Tocchet and his staff will have a full training camp to set their pace and their systems with a notable change in their defensive core. Hopefully this is the beginning of a new era in Vancouver and the fans will once again be allowed to have playoffs' hopes.
