Nylander is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2024 and was eligible to sign a contract extension back on Canada Day. Still, nothing has materialized on that front at all, which has added more fuel to the first in terms of trade rumours.
Several teams would like to add a player like William Nylander to their roster and take this with a grain of salt, but according to Eklund of HockeyBuzz, one of those teams is the Vancouver Canucks.
The 27-year-old Nylander is coming off the best season of his National Hockey League career thus far. In 82 games, he put up 87 points (40 goals, 47 assists), 28 penalty minutes and was a plus-ten. He went on to add ten points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
There's no doubt that the Canucks have the prospect capital to get a Nylander trade done, but starting this season, he had a modified no-trade clause with a ten-team no-trade list. It's unclear at this time if Nylander has the Canucks as one of those ten teams on his list. Could he be looking to reunite with his fellow Swede Elias Pettersson?
A trade of this sort would definitely have to start with Brock Boeser / Conor Garland and a top-end prospect like Jonathan Lekkerimaki. Should the Canucks try and acquire William Nylander? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below!
