Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin commented yesterday about why the organization decided to sign unrestricted free agent forward David Kampf.

The Vancouver Canucks were linked to Czech forward David Kampf for the better part of a week amid the team's persistent injury issues and ultimately, they beat out two other teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, in order to sign him to a one-year deal worth $1.1 million USD.
"Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward David Kämpf on a one-year contract with a $1.1 million AAV." the team said in their press release.

While Kampf might not be the center that Vancouver Canucks fans were hoping to land after being linked to others including Pavel Zacha, General Manager Patrik Allvin is very excited with the addition of the Chomutov, Czechia native.

Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin comments on why team signed David Kampf

Shortly after the signing was made official, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin commented on the team's decision to go out onto the free agent market and pick up David Kampf.
Allvin said he believes that Kampf will strengthen the club down the middle right away, with his faceoff and penalty killing abilities really sticking out to them when deciding whether or not to bring him on board.
"David is a very reliable two-way centre who will improve our strength and depth down the middle immediately. He is good in the faceoff dot and is a solid penalty killer, two areas of need we currently have on our team. His hockey IQ is also a big asset and we believe he will fit in nicely with our group." Allvin said.

One area the Vancouver Canucks desperately need help is on the penalty kill as they have the worst PK percentage in the entire National Hockey League at 66.1 through 19 games.
Kampf will almost certainly take a spot on the Canucks' first penalty killing unit right out of the gate and don't be surprised if by the time November wraps up, Adam Foote's group are at least ten spots higher than they are currently in PK%.
Looking ahead a little bit to when Vancouver returns to full strength, with Filip Chytil and Teddy Blueger back in the lineup, it's safe to say that Kampf's role won't change a whole lot and he could slot in on the third line, with the aforementioned Blueger sliding down to the fourth trio, but we'll have to wait and see what Adam Foote has in mind when that day finally comes.
