Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has officially been connected to an Eastern Conference team as rumors continue to swirl regarding his future.

As we approach the start of the NHL's 2025-26 season, one of the biggest talking points around the league is the future of Quinn Hughes with the Vancouver Canucks, with less than a year until he's eligible to sign a contract extension.
Those rumors began back in April, when Jim Rutherford admitted that there was a possibility Quinn Hughes could leave the organization within the next couple years, as it might not come down to money or term in contract talks.
"It may not boil down to money with [Quinn]. He said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here." Rutherford said.

While the New Jersey Devils make the most sense if Quinn Hughes were to ever leave the Vancouver Canucks, as it gives him the opportunity to play with his brothers Luke and Jack, but there appears to be another team to keep an eye on in the years ahead.
In a recent article for The Province, Ben Kuzma mentions the Detroit Red Wings as a team that would certainly like to get their hands on Quinn Hughes.
"The Detroit Red Wings can gaze into their crystal ball of acquiring a generational difference-maker in the Vancouver Canucks captain, who is a Norris Trophy winner, record breaker, Michigan-bred superstar, and key cog for Team USA in the 2026 Winter Olympics." Kuzma said.

Landing Quinn Hughes would help correct a big mistake the Detroit Red Wings made during the league's Entry Draft in 2018 when they used the sixth overall pick to select Filip Zadina, who is now in his second season with HC Davos in Switzerland after putting up 41 goals in 262 games in the NHL.
One pick after the Red Wings selected Zadina, the Vancouver Canucks took Quinn Hughes, who has grown into not only the best defenseman the franchise has ever seen, but one of the best players in team history.
To reel it back in a bit, the odds of Hughes going anywhere, whether it be Detroit or New Jersey, are quite slim at the moment as team is focusing on proving to him that they can be a contender for many years to come and if they're able to to that this year, it'll go a long way in helping their chances of re-signing him as soon as Canada Day 2026.
