Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is drawing more criticism following Wednesday loss against the Chicago Blackhawks for his lack of shooting the puck.

Elias Pettersson is hoping that this season will be the one where he turns things around and returns to being an elite player for his club after struggling throughout the 2024-25 campaign, but so far, it hasn't been the best of starts for the Swedish forward.
Through 15 games, Pettersson has ten points and only three goals, with his last coming over a week ago, and has was the case last season, 26-year-old doesn't appear to be shooting the puck as much as he did in previous years, which is causing some frustration among fans and even analysts.

Elias Pettersson drawing criticism for his lack of shooting early this season

Vancouver welcomed the Chicago Blackhawks to town on Wednesday night and while Elias Pettersson finished the night with three shots, he had two glorious opportunities to find the back of the net, but decided to pass it off instead.
One instance of that came in the third period last night with the Canucks on the penalty kill. Pettersson forced a turnover in Chicago's zone and instead of taking it to the net or shooting it from where he was, he drop passed it to Conor Garland, who didn't get a shot off either and gave it back to the Blackhawks, who went on to score.
"Elias Pettersson makes another drop pass on a scoring chance that gets broken up." Canucks Army shared.
On Thursday morning's edition of Halford & Brough, the duo discussed Elias Pettersson's season thus far and how frustrating it is to not see him shooting the puck when he has clear opportunities to do so.
"Pettersson, once again, had little interest in shooting last night. There's a clear trend, and it's getting pretty exhausting to watch."
The Sundsvall, Sweden native has registered 23 shots this season, an average of 1.53 per game and has a shooting percentage of 13.0, all of which aren't nearly good enough for someone who's earning as much as Pettersson is.
That isn't meant to criticize him any further, everyone just wants to see Pettersson shoot the puck more often because when he's at the top of his game, he has one of the best and most accurate shots in the National Hockey League.
Going back to the 2022-23 campaign, when Pettersson put up a career-high 39 goals and 102 points, he took 257 shots, an average of over three per game and a 15.2 shooting percentage.
If Pettersson can just simply shoot the puck, then there's no question he's going to find the back of the net more often and in turn, will give his team a chance to get the two points every night and that's exactly what they need right now as the Canucks currently sit below the .500 mark on the season.
