A former Stanley Cup champion has emerged as a potential trade target for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks as they continue to search for center help.

The Vancouver Canucks' search for center help has continued into the second month of the 2025-26 season as Patrik Allvin looks to bring someone in to play a second or third line role down the middle.
The club was able to land some forward help by acquiring Lukas Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks, but he's more suited for the wing in the long-term, opening up a spot down the middle for a future trade and in the weeks ahead, more and more names are going to pop up as potential options for the Canucks to consider.
While nothing is imminent on the trade front for the Vancouver Canucks at this time, it looks like a former Stanley Cup champion could be available ahead of the deadline in early March and if so, Patrik Allvin should be all over it.

Former Stanley Cup champion could be potential trade target for Vancouver Canucks

During an appearance on Oilers Nation Everyday on Tuesday, NHL insider David Pagnotta revealed that Nashville Predators forward Ryan O'Reilly's name has been out there recently.
"Nashville...Ryan O'Reilly, his name's starting to pop up again." Pagnotta said.

From a defensive standpoint, bringing in Ryan O'Reilly would be a perfect move as the former Selke Trophy winner can also put the puck in the back of the net with back-to-back 20+ goal seasons under his belt.
It's too early to say what it would cost for Patrik Allvin to bring Ryan O'Reilly to Vancouver or what the Nashville Predators want in return, Heavy.com suggested a deal this summer that would see the Canucks land the former Stanley Cup champion in exchange for Teddy Blueger, Aatu Raty and a 2028 second round pick.
"Vancouver Canucks acquire: Ryan O'Reilly

Nashville Predators acquire: Teddy Blueger, Aatu Raty, and a 2028 second-round pick.

In Vancouver, O'Reilly wouldn't be expected to carry the offensive load. Pettersson is a former 100 point scorer that the Canucks certainly want to get back on track. However, they will want the 34-year-old to continue producing as he has." Tristin McKinstry said.

If Patrik Allvin is able to work out a deal like that, where they could give up a pending UFA in Teddy Blueger and a younger player like Aatu Raty, who will be passed on the depth chart eventually by Braeden Cootes, then it would be a really smart move for the Vancouver Canucks.
