An Edmonton Oilers analyst believes that forward Evander Kane's stint with the Vancouver Canucks organization could end up being a pretty short one.

The biggest move the Vancouver Canucks made this summer was bringing in veteran forward Evander Kane via a trade with the Edmonton Oilers, a move that should help boost the team's offense after a lackluster 2024-25 campaign in the goal scoring department.
"I'm excited for that. Obviously, being able to put on a Vancouver Canucks uniform is really special. I grew up watching the Canucks. Markus Naslund was my favorite Canuck growing up by far." Kane said.

Kane has one year remaining on his contract with a cap hit $5.125 million USD and is set to become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day next summer and while there's certainly a possibility his time with the Vancouver Canucks may last only one season, an Edmonton Oilers analyst believes it could be less than that.

A big reason why Edmonton decided to move on from Evander Kane this summer had to do with their cap situation and needing to lock up Evan Bouchard, which they ended up doing less than a week after the trade, inking the blueliner to a four-year contract worth $10.5 million annually.
As things stand today, August 28th, the Edmonton Oilers have just $225,000 USD in available cap space, but could have a lot more once the trade deadline rolls around, which is still TBD but should be in early March, and last weekend, an analyst predicted that we'll see a move involving Evander Kane later on this season.
According to David Staples, one of his "hot takes" for the Edmonton Oilers' 2025-26 season is that General Manager Stan Bowman will re-acquire Evander Kane at the trade deadline from the Edmonton Oilers.
"* The Oilers will trade for Evander Kane at the deadline." Staples said in a post on X.
We're still three weeks away from training camp and exactly six weeks until the Canucks begin their 2025-26 season, so it's safe to say that Patrik Allvin hasn't even began to think about what moves he may or may not make at the trade deadline in March and a move involving Evander Kane likely hasn't even crossed his mind.
The only way the Vancouver Canucks would likely move on from Evander Kane is if they are way out of the Stanley Cup Playoff picture in late-February/early-March and there would be no path for them to even catch one of the team's in a Wild Card spot.
For now, the Vancouver Canucks are planning to have Evander Kane around all season long, hoping he'll play a big role for the club in their top-six and on the power play as well.
