Former Canucks Captain & Top Offseason Target to Miss Significant Time Due To Injury
A former Vancouver Canucks forward is set to miss the remainder of the 2025 IIHF World Championship over in Sweden due to an injury sustained on Monday.
The preliminary round at the 2025 IIHF World Championship in Denmark and Sweden came to a close on Tuesday with a
number of Vancouver Canucks players in action for their respective nations.
There's also a handful of former Vancouver Canucks at the tournament this year, including ex-captain
Bo Horvat, who has been lights out for Team Canada from the moment the puck dropped back on May 9th.
Bo Horvat to miss remainder of 2025 IIHF World Championship
On Tuesday morning, ahead of their final game of the preliminary round against the co-hosts, Sweden, Hockey Canada announced some terrible news regarding Bo Horvat, sharing that he'll miss the remainder of the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
Horvat sustained an injury during Canada's shootout loss to Finland on Monday and will be replaced on the roster by 2025 projected top-five pick Porter Martone of the Ontario Hockey League's Brampton Steelheads.
"ROSTER UPDATE | Porter Martone has been added to Team Canada for #MensWorlds. Bo Horvat will miss the remainder of the tournament." Hockey Canada shared on X.
Just after 12 pm PT, the New York Islanders issued an update on X regarding Bo Horvat's status, saying that he has suffered a lower-body injury and that he will be returning to Long Island to be evaluated by team doctors.
"#Isles Player Update: Bo Horvat sustained a lower body injury at the World Championships playing for Hockey Canada. He will return to Long Island and see our team doctors." the Islanders said.
Horvat, who has been
mentioned in trade rumours lately,, was playing in his first tournament for Canada since the 2018 IIHF World Championship and this time around, he was enjoying the most success he's had individually while wearing the Maple Leaf on the senior men's stage.
In six games, the London, Ontario native had eight points (four goals, four assists), two penalty minutes and was a plus-five.
