Former Vancouver Canuck Signs New Contract After One Year Absence From Pro-Hockey
A former defenseman in the Vancouver Canucks organization has signed a contract overseas in Europe after a one-year absence from professional hockey.
As the offseason gets underway across the hockey world, several former members of the Vancouver Canucks have already found their new homes for the 2025-26 season.
Former Abbotsford Canucks defenseman Brady Keeper signs contract in Europe
In a press release earlier this week, the Glasgow Clan, who play in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract with former Abbotsford Canucks defenseman Brady Keeper.
"Brady is a rugged defensive defenceman who skates well and is highly competitive. He enjoys confrontation, blocking shots and winning. He's had some unlucky seasons of late with injuries and is excited to get back to playing at a high level." Clan Head Coach Corey Neilson said.
Keeper, 29, was signed by the Vancouver Canucks as an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2021 and unfortunately that September, he broke his tibia and fibula which forced him to miss the entire 2021-22 campaign.
He returned to game action next season with the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks, putting up six points (one goal, five assists), 35 penalty minutes and had an even-rating in 35 games.
Last summer, Keeper
decided to leave North America and signed a contract with HK Poprad in the Slovak Extraliga, however the Cross Lake, Manitoba native never suited up for the club.
Back in November, HK Poprad revealed that due to family reasons, Keeper has yet to play for the them and is welcome to join them at any time, but it doesn't appear that the former NHLer ever headed to Slovakia.
Note: the following is translated from Slovak
"He has a valid contract in Europe with HK Poprad for this season, although he is currently not receiving a salary due to non-fulfillment of the contract. If family reasons finally allow him to come, he is welcome in the team." HK Poprad said.
The Elite Ice Hockey League's season usually begins in late August, so look for Brady Keeper to make his Glasgow Clan debut later on this summer and if he has a big year, it's possible he could return to North America, likely in the AHL.
