A former Vancouver Canucks defenseman, who appeared in 28 games across parts of two seasons, received supplemental discipline overseas in Europe this weekend.
The 2025-26 season is already underway in many leagues across the globe, including in the Swedish Hockey League, which will be home to several former Vancouver Canucks this year, including defenseman Mark Friedman,
who signed a one-year deal with Rogle BK in early June.
"I'm really looking forward to moving to Sweden and playing for Rogle. It feels like a perfect time in life to take this step. You always want to go to the team that shows the most interest, which Rogle did." Friedman said.
The ex-Canucks defenseman is just four games into his tenure with Rogle BK and already, he's facing supplemental discipline from the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's Disciplinary Committee.

In a press release on Sunday, the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) announced that the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's Disciplinary Committee has decided to give Mark Friedman an SEK 5,000 fine (732.91 CAD | 531.30 USD) for actions during a recent game.
During the latter stages of the second period of Saturday's game between Rogle BK and Leksands IF, Mark Friedman was found to have embellished a high stick from his opponent, Oskar Lang, which resulted in the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's Disciplinary Committee reviewing the incident and ultimately, fining the former Canuck.
Note: the following is translated from Swedish
"Rögle player Mark Friedman was found guilty of Embellishment in yesterday's match between Rögle and Leksand by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's Disciplinary Committee. The case has been handled according to the procedures that apply to disciplinary cases during the season.
There are 33 seconds left in the second period and there is a down in Rögle's defense zone. The puck goes out towards the longboard where Leksand Player No. 14 Oskar Lang and Rögle Player No. 95 Mark Friedman are. Lang gets the stick in the face of Friedman who exaggerates and intensifies the situation to ensure that the referees will call a penalty.
Through the film sequence, the committee finds it clear that Mark Friedman is aggravating the situation in the manner stated in the report. He has therefore been guilty of Embellishment. The offense is of such a nature that it should lead to punishment in the form of a moderate fine." the SHL said in their press release.
Friedman, a native of Toronto, Ontario, has three points (one goal, two assists), 47 penalty minutes and has an even-rating through four games for Rogle BK and will back in action on Thursday against Linkoping HC.
