Quinn Hughes opened up to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman earlier this month about his future with the Vancouver Canucks as well as the upcoming 2025-26 season.

As we inch closer to the start of Vancouver's 2025-26 schedule, which officially gets underway on October 9th, rumors surrounding Quinn Hughes' future with the organization aren't quieting down as quickly as some were hoping for.
After President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford told reporters back in April that there's certainly a chance Quinn Hughes could leave the club as a free agent, rumors began running wild with some linking him with a move to the New Jersey Devils to join his brothers Jack and Luke, while recently, the Detroit Red Wings have emerged as a potential landing spot for the Canucks captain.

Earlier this month, Quinn Hughes represented the Vancouver Canucks at the NHL's North American Players Media Tour in Las Vegas, Nevada and while he was there, he sat down for an interview with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
That interview was recently shared by Sportsnet, during which Hughes was asked by Friedman about his future with the Vancouver Canucks organization.
Hughes spoke very highly of Vancouver Canucks' management and the coaching staffs he's had during his tenure with the club, saying that they've all helped him get to this point in his career.
However, Hughes did make it seem like his future in Vancouver will depend on how the club performs this year, but says he is hoping that they'll be able to get back to how good the team was two seasons ago.
"I mean, I've really enjoyed Vancouver. I'm very thankful. I mean, when I came to Vancouver, I don't think anyone thought I was going to become what I've become. That's happened because of the people in Vancouver. Management, coaching, you know, I've had three great coaches between Bruce, Green, and Rick. And management's been, you know, kind of gave me the keys to the kingdom a couple of years ago naming me the C, and I'm very grateful." Hughes said.

He added, "As far as this year, I just feel like last year was a failure and I want to propel my game even further, and propel my teammates even further and see what we can do.

As far as that question, I mean I'll answer that, you know, with my actions next summer. But, I mean, you know how it is, anything can change if we have a terrible year. This year, that's probably not gonna be very fun, but if we have a terrific year, you know, that's what we want. That'll be really fun, like two years ago it was really really fun, so I'll just leave it at that."
The topic of Hughes' future with the Vancouver Canucks isn't going away anytime soon, which is something that the organization probably isn't too happy about as it could be viewed as a distraction, but if they're able to have a strong year and make it back to the playoffs, we could see the captain put an end to all the rumors by putting pen-to-paper on an extension next summer.
