Former Vancouver Canucks Fan Favorite Dane Jackson Lands Big Promotion as Head Coach In the NCAA

Ahead of his 20th season as a coach in the NCAA this fall, former Vancouver Canucks forward Dane Jackson has landed a big promotion.
The NCAA season is slowly winding down, with four teams still standing ahead of the Frozen Four in St. Louis, Missouri next month, including
Tom Willander and Boston University after they defeated Cornell in the Regional Final on Saturday.
After failing to make it to the NCAA Division 1 playoff tournament for the second time in three years, the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks are making a change behind the bench, with a former Vancouver Canuck landing a big opportunity.
Ex-Canuck Dane Jackson lands promotion at University of North Dakota
Following their elimination from their regional playoff tournament at the hands of Western Michigan University, the University of North Dakota has announced that former Vancouver Canucks forward Dane Jackson will take over as Head Coach next season.
Jackson, 54, has spent the last 19 seasons behind the bench with the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2015, associate coach in 2015-16 and from 2016 to 2025 as their associate head coach.
"I am very humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to become the next leader of the North Dakota hockey program," said Jackson. "I feel fortunate of all the things that I have learned from the UND culture, and it is this special place that has shaped my playing and coaching career. I am looking forward to getting right to hard work with our staff to make our program and great University proud. I want to thank Dr. Andy Armacost, Bill Chaves and Erik Martinson for having the trust in me to lead this program."
The Castlegar, British Columbia native spent four seasons with the University of North Dakota as a player before making his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks, who drafted him 44th overall in 1988, during the 1993-94 season.
Jackson appeared in 45 games in the National Hockey League, 15 with Vancouver, 22 with Buffalo and eight with the New York Islanders, where he registered 18 points (12 goals, six assists), 58 penalty minutes and was a plus-seven.
