Former Vancouver Canucks forward & longtime NHLer Alex Chiasson has announced some life-changing news over the weekend.

After not playing during the 2023-24 season, former Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Chiasson wanted to make one final attempt at playing in the National Hockey League again and signed a professional tryout (PTO) with the Detroit Red Wings.
Unfortunately for Chiasson, his professional tryout with the Detroit Red Wings was unsuccessful and he wasn't able to land a contract for the 2024-25 season, which led to him announcing his retirement from professional hockey in January.
"Alex Chiasson has officially announced his retirement from the @NHL after 11 seasons.

Congratulations, Alex on a great career and welcome to the #NHLAlumni Association!" NHL Alumni said.

A little over four months after Alex Chiasson concluded his professional hockey career, the 34-year-old decided that he wanted to go back to school to finish off his studies.
Chiasson attended Boston University for three years between 2009-10 and 2011-12 and before he could finish off the course he was taking with the school's College of Arts and Sciences, he signed his entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars, thus beginning his professional hockey career.
13 years after leaving to begin his hockey career, former Vancouver Canuck Alex Chiasson can proudly call himself a graduate of Boston University, the school's hockey team announced on social media over the weekend.
"Congrats to Stanley Cup champion Alex Chiasson on graduating this weekend!" BU Men's Hockey said.
"Former NHL player & 2018 Stanley Cup champ Alex Chiasson finishes his degree at BU after enrolling 15 years ago 🎓" B/R Open Ice said on X.
The Montreal, Quebec native spent parts of 11 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals (where he won a Stanley Cup), Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks and the Detroit Red Wings, amassing 233 points in 651 career games.
During his lone season with the Vancouver Canucks in 2021-22, Chiasson finished tenth on the team in points with 22 (13 goals, nine assists), while adding 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-five in 67 games.
From everyone here at Canucks Daily, we'd like to congratulate Alex Chiasson on his graduation from Boston University and wish him all the best in the future.
