After parts of 11 seasons in the National Hockey League, including one with the Vancouver Canucks, 34-year-old Alex Chiasson has announced his retirement from professional hockey.
The news was confirmed on Monday afternoon in a social media post by the National Hockey League's Alumni Association on X.
With Alex Chiasson an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2021 following three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, the Montreal native signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the Vancouver Canucks.
Chiasson showed up to camp that fall motivated and eager to earn a spot on the National Hockey League roster and just before the season began, he landed a one-year contract with the Canucks for the 2021-22 season worth $750,000 USD.
In 67 games with the Canucks, Chiasson registered 22 points (13 goals, nine assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-five.
After the season came to a close, the Canucks decided to let Alex Chiasson walk to unrestricted free agency on July 1st and he wasn't able to find a new until early 2023 when he signed for the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
Over the last two seasons, Chiasson was able to land professional tryout contract - 2023-24 with the Boston Bruins and 2024-25 with the Detroit Red Wings, however neither were successful and he remained a UFA.
Everyone here at Blade of Steel would like to congratulate Alex Chiasson on a solid career in the National Hockey League and wish him all the best in his future endeavors in retirement.
