Former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Joins New Coaching Staff Just Months After Leaving the Organization
Former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach has decided to join a brand new coaching staff just months after taking the lead job behind the bench for the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Vancouver Canucks have gone through a slew of changes the past couple of months, no move more notable than Head Coach Rick Tocchet deciding that his time with the organization was finished and parted ways in May.
Subsequently, the move was anticipated as the former Jack Adams Award Winner was quickly hired as the next head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Rick Tocchet will be the next head coach of the Flyers. Sounds like the deal is in the range of five years, $25 million total.
It does not come to a major shock that he chose to go to the Flyers, as he spent 11 of his 18 season as a player living and playing in Philadelphia.

Regardless of the outcome of the Canucks' 2024-25 season, Tocchet is one of the best coaches in the entire National Hockey League, and was considered the top available bench boss before putting pen to paper with his former team.
With that said, his services were called upon once again as he was added as an assistant coach to Jon Cooper who will be leading Team Canada behind the bench at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Canada's coaching staff is stacked with experience. Joining Tocchet as assistants are Bruce Cassidy and Peter DeBoer, while Jon Cooper will serve as Head Coach. As for Canada's management staff, it will feature Doug Armstrong, who is the General Manager, Julien BriseBois, Jim Nill and Don Sweeney, who are Assistant General Managers, and Kyle Dubas, who is the Director of Player Personnel.
Members of the Canucks who have already been selecting for their respective countries are Captain Quinn Highes for Team USA, Teddy Blueger for Team Latvia, Elias Pettersson for Team Sweden, Filip Hronek and Filip Chytil for Team Czechia, as well as Kevin Lankinen for Team Finland.
