An NHL insider has given an update on the future of pending unrestricted free agent Pius Suter with the Vancouver Canucks, with July 1st just under three weeks away.

In just a few weeks from now, the National Hockey League's free agent window will open, with players eligible to sign with new teams as of 9:01 am PT on Canada Day.
The Vancouver Canucks have two notable unrestricted free agents on their roster right now - Brock Boeser and Pius Suter, with the latter set for a big pay raise this summer.

NHL insider gives update on Pius Suter's future with the Vancouver Canucks

On Wednesday's edition of Donnie & Dhali, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal gave an update on what it'll take the Vancouver Canucks to keep Pius Suter and avoid him from leaving the organization altogether 20 days from now.
According to Dhaliwal, the Vancouver Canucks do want to keep the Swiss forward, which doesn't come as much of a surprise given how well he played throughout the 2024-25 season, along with the team lacking depth down the middle.
Dhaliwal went on to share that Suter is likely look at a dollar figure starting with $4 million this summer, while the Canucks are hoping to get a deal done under that amount per season.
"We're down to crunch time, folks. Brock Boeser and Pius Suter, July 1st is not too far away. The Canucks want to keep Pius Suter, but it sounds like the number could be too high for Vancouver." Dhaliwal said.

He added, "The two sides have talked. No concrete offer from the Canucks yet. The July 1st center market is slim, we all know that, Don. Brock Nelson going off the market could mean more teams in on Suter. I'm told the Canucks do not want to go to a crazy number for Suter.

Suter's July 1st number is going to start with a 4. I do believe the Canucks don't want to go there, I think their number might be somewhere in the 3's."
Suter, a native of Zurich, Switzerland, is coming off the best season of his National Hockey League career, which is why AFP Analytics recently projected him to land a four-year contract worth $4.98 million annually.
In 81 games this season, the 29-year-old registered 46 points (25 goals, 21 assists), 18 penalty minutes and was a plus-two.
If the Vancouver Canucks aren't willing to get to, or go over the $4 million mark which Dhaliwal believes is the starting price on July 1st, it seems quite likely he'll be donning a different uniform this fall.
