A new contract projection has been released on Monday morning for Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter following the best season of his NHL career so far.
After a tough season for the Vancouver Canucks, there weren't many bright spots but Swiss forward Pius Suter certainly was one after setting new career-highs in goals and points.
Suter is
set to become a free agent on July 1st and is in line for a pretty big jump in pay this summer, whether that be from the Vancouver Canucks or another team in the National Hockey League.
Contract projection released for Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter
Leading up to the National Hockey League's trade deadline in March, the Vancouver Canucks were talking with Pius Suter and his camp about a contract extension, but according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman
the team didn't like the numbers they were hearing and that Patrik Allvin will have to circle back again at a later date.
"The solution for centre might be the guy who is already there. The Canucks didn't like Suter's number at the deadline but they might have to look at those numbers again. I am curious to see what happens there." Friedman said in early April.
Suter is coming off a contract that paid him $1.6 million annually and after a 25-goal campaign, he's going to get a bump in pay, as mentioned, and as for what that next deal could look like, AFP Analytics have revealed their projection on Monday morning.
AFP Analytics are projecting that Pius Suter gets a four-year contract worth a total of $19,932,214.29 and $4,983,053.57 annually, which would be a jump of a little over $3.3 million.
When looking at comparable contracts based on production, age and other factors, some of the names mentioned by AFP Analytics are New York Islanders forward
Jean-Gabriel Pageau (6 yrs x $5M AAV), Detroit Red Wings forward
J.T. Compher (5 yrs x $5.1M AAV) and Columbus Blue Jackets captain
Boone Jenner (4 yrs x $3.75M AAV).
Pius Suter has been very reliable during his two seasons as a Vancouver Canuck in a middle-six role and fans are hoping that the team will be able to work out a deal to keep him with the British Columbia club for next year and beyond.
