Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin could target a Dallas Stars forward this summer after the team reportedly made him available for trade this summer.
It's going to be an interesting summer around the National Hockey League with some big names being mentioned in trade rumors over the last couple of weeks.
For the Vancouver Canucks,
who are hoping to be aggressive this summer, there are several players they could end up targeting to fill specific needs the club has, including the second line center position and a top-six winger, with the latter hinging on the departure of
Brock Boeser on July 1st.
Dallas Stars forward made available for trade, potential option for Vancouver Canucks
After a third consecutive exit in the Western Conference Final, the Dallas Stars are looking to shake things up a bit this summer and the team started by
firing Peter DeBoer last week.
In terms of their NHL roster and changes with that, it looks like the organization is open to moving from a pair of big name forwards, as General Manager Jim Nill has some big decisions to make with their cap space this summer and is hoping to hold onto
Jamie Benn,
Mikael Granlund and
Matt Duchene.
"Numerous reports have indicated star winger Jason Robertson is in play for the Stars, and TFP's David Pagnotta has confirmed that teams have been inquiring about his potential availability and the Stars have been willing to listen.
However, two sources close to the situation told TFP on Wednesday that there is an internal hesitancy to part with Robertson, who has put up back-to-back 80-point seasons after collecting 109 points in 2022-23."
Robertson, 25, had another strong season for the Dallas Stars, recording 80 points (35 goals, 45 assists) in 82 regular season games, but struggled in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, registering just six points in 11 contests.
The Arcadia, California native has one year remaining on his contract with the Dallas Stars, which comes with a fairly reasonable cap hit of $7.75 million and next summer, will become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
In a recent article on
The Athletic, Harman Dayal and Thomas Drance believe that landing Jason Robertson would fit the team's needs on forward, while also suggesting
Marco Rossi and
Trevor Zegras as possible fits.
"There are credible rumblings surrounding Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson, a 25-year-old who has eclipsed 35 goals in three of the past four seasons. Centre Marco Rossi (23 years old, 60-point season) could shake loose as a result of his playoff usage and a looming contract standoff with the Minnesota Wild. It's been apparent for a while that flashy Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras could be available, and he's entering the final season of his second contract - a three-year bridge deal." Dayal and Drance said.
It seems like there's a pretty good chance Vancouver Canucks fans can expect to see some sort of trade this summer to address those needs in the top-six and hopefully, it'll end up being someone like Jason Robertson, who would bring some much needed offense to the group, while playing on both the first line and first power play unit.
