A National Hockey League insider has officially linked the Vancouver Canucks to a former top-ten pick on the Detroit Red Wings as trade talks begin to heat up.
Vancouver has a number of players available on the National Hockey League's trade market including Kiefer Sherwood, Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, among others, with the possibility of Quinn Hughes joining that group too if the Canucks and him agree that it's time to go their separate ways before the deadline.
Vancouver Canucks reportedly interested in former top-ten pick from Detroit Red Wings
During an appearance on Sekeres and Price this week, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal revealed that the Vancouver Canucks have really liked Detroit Red Wings centerman Marco Kasper for a long time now, dating back to the 2022 Entry Draft when the Austrian was selected eighth overall, seven picks before they took Jonathan Lekkerimaki.
"The one center the Canucks have liked for a long time is Marco Kasper. He was drafted 8th overall and Canucks had him ranked higher on their list." Dhaliwal said.
Kasper, a native of Innsbruck, Austria, had a solid rookie season for the Red Wings during the 2024-25 campaign, registering 19 goals and 37 points in 77 games, but has taken a bit of a step back this year with just three points (3 G) in 28 contests.
While it's too early on in Kasper's career to say he could be in need of a fresh start, the 21-year-old centerman would certainly be a good fit for the Vancouver Canucks, who have been searching for a long-term solution to their second line center hole.
