Insider shares update on contract talks between Tyler Myers & Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks have several unrestricted free agents that they'd like to re-sign including veteran defenceman Tyler Myers, who has been with the team since 2019.
Last week, rumours were swirling that the Vancouver Canucks and Tyler Myers' camp were working away at a contract extension to keep him in British Columbia and it could be done relatively quickly.
While that still may be the case, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period said that Myers' agent is calling those rumours 'noise' right now and that both sides have just started talking. Both sides are wanting to get something done, if the term and money works for Myers and the Canucks.
"There was a lot of talk in Vancouver last week over a potential contract extension in the works for Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers. As I reported on NHL Network on Friday, I reached out to his agent J.P. Barry and was told the chatter is just «noise» at this point. The two sides have just started talking. I'm not suggesting a deal isn't possible, but it's premature at this point. It's clear both sides are interested in getting something done." Pagnotta said.
Myers, 34, appeared in 77 games in 2023-24 for the Canucks where he had his most points in a single season since joining Vancouver as a free agent in 2019. In those 77 games, the Houston, Texas native had 29 points (five goals, 24 assists), 77 penalty minutes and was a plus-16. He went on to add one assist in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
It'll be interesting to see if the Vancouver Canucks and Tyler Myers' camp will be able to work out a deal prior to him hitting the open market on July 1st. According to CapFriendly, the Canucks have $23,778,333 million in cap space for the 2024-25 season and with other free agents such as Nikita Zadorov, Dakota Joshua and Filip Hronek (RFA) in need of contracts, things could get pretty tricky for Patrik Allvin.
