The NHL's trade deadline has passed and the Vancouver Canucks have decided to stand pat, not moving any of their pending unrestricted free agents.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin
made a deal on Thursday night that sent
Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers and many thought the team would be active today, but that didn't end up happening.
The 12 pm PT trade deadline came and went on Friday with some big names moves around the National Hockey League, but the Vancouver Canucks remained quiet and
Brock Boeser, who many expected to be dealt, remains with the club.
Vancouver Canucks stand pat at NHL's trade deadline
Just after the deadline passed, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff shared in a post on social media that the Vancouver Canucks didn't make any deals today and have kept pending unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser.
"#Canucks retained Brock Boeser, no moves coming. They're done for the day." Seravalli said.
Patrik Allvin met with reporters a short while ago where he was asked about the team's lack of moves today and why the team decided to keep Brock Boeser, rather than trading him for an asset.
Allvin told reporters that the value wasn't there in a Brock Boeser trade and that people wouldn't believe some of the offers he received for the 28-year-old recently.
"Patrik Allvin says that if he told people what he was offered for Brock Boeser, they wouldn't believe it. Says the value wasn't there." Brendan Batchelor said.
The Canucks' General Manager added that he believes his group is talented enough and that you can't use a trade deadline day to define how you build a team.
"This group is talented enough, and we've shown in different games against different opponents that we're capable of playing really good hockey. I do like that lately our underlying numbers are indicating that we're playing the right way." Allvin said.
He added, " I don't think you use this day as a defining day of how you build a team."
By keeping Brock Boeser as their own rental, the Vancouver Canucks will need his scoring in a big way if they're going to make any noise down the stretch and potentially into the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
