Jim Rutherford addresses Brock Boeser's future with the Canucks
Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser is coming off the best season of his National Hockey League career so far, and many are hoping that he'll be able to repeat his success next year.
Recently, Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet sat down for a Q&A with Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford to discuss several topics, including the breakout year for Boeser.
Rutherford said that he's happy for Boeser after all he's gone through and that they believe he's back on track. He added that after they confirm that he is on track, based on his performance next season, they'll decide on his future with the organization. Boeser is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
He was also asked if there were plans to explore a trade involving Boeser this summer, but Rutherford shut that down pretty quickly, confirming that the 27-year-old would be back in Vancouver next season.
"I just couldn't be happier for a player for the year he had after what he's gone through. This will be a case where we will watch this closely into the season. But we believe that Brock is back on track and will continue to do what he was doing, and once we get confirmation of that during the season, we'll decide on him in the future." Rutherford said.
When asked if there were no plans to explore a trade this summer, Rutherford said: "No. No."
Boeser, a native of Burnsville, Minnesota, appeared in 81 games this season, where he recorded 73 points (40 goals, 33 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a plus-23. He added 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games before he was forced to end his season early due to a blood clotting issue.
