The Vancouver Canucks are in a tough position this season, and Quinn Hughes has clearly lost interest in fighting for them this season, similar to J.T. Miller the captain has shown clear signs of frustration, even fully giving up on plays, and many people want to see him traded.
Head coach Adam Foote, has tried defending him, saying it's normal for a player to show these signs during tough stretches, but there is frustration and checked out, and Hughes is the latter.
"NHL insider Robinson was discussing that Hughes does not see a future with the Canucks, he will either join his brothers or sign with a contender. The Canucks have not given him enough of a team, or a good enough outlook on the future for him to stay. It's not entirely his fault given how poor the team has been. But it is time to move on."-Stinson
Quinn Hughes has no fight left in him with the Vancouver Canucks.
Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet reported on the dram surrounding Hughes and the Canucks. He clearly doesn't want to be there but Patrick Allvin and Jim Rutherford do not want to let him go. But his play isn't helping the Canucks, his trade value on the other hand would.
"That's what people in Vancouver have been watching the last six years. Which makes it a little surprising how much attention Hughes' 10 lazy (or exhausted) seconds in Denver received on social media. The clip went viral while hardly anyone remembered Hughes breaking Avalanche defenceman Sam Malinski's ankles with a cutback in the offensive zone."-MacIntyre
He is expressing the same body language as Miller was before he was traded to the New York Rangers. It's not inspiring to his teammates to see their captain give up, and it's not inspiring to the fans either. Something needs to change, either his mentality or the team he is on.
"But no one should be surprised - or outraged - that the 26-year-old captain is showing glimpses of frustration amid a 10-14-3 start to a season that has been deeply disappointing to a Canucks organization that badly wanted to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, partly as an enticement for Hughes to stay."-MacIntyre
The bottom line is, the Canucks management did not do enough to put a good team on the ice, and Hughes wants to win. It's evident he is frustrated, when you're miles better than anyone on the team, you feel alone. Great players want to be surrounded by greatness, and Hughes is surrounded by mediocrity, on the ice and in the head office.
