Metropolitan Division May Be Making a Push For Vancouver Canucks Forward Nils Hoglander
A Metropolitan Division team could be a fit for Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander.
The Vancouver Canucks are on a roll of late, winning three of their last four games and head into Detroit on Sunday afternoon with an opportunity to overtake the Calgary Flames for third in the Pacific Division.
We're just over a quarter of the way through the Canucks' 2024-25 schedule and the Nils Hoglander situation is becoming a bigger and bigger issue as the days go on.
Hoglander had a breakout season in 2023-24, registering 24 goals in 80 games, all of which came at even strength.
However this season has been a rough one for the Bocktrask, Sweden native as he's only registered five points in 22 games this season. Something has to give, right?
During Friday's overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres, Nils Hoglander's recorded his lowest ice-time of the 2024-25 campaign at 6:28. In fact, in all four of Vancouver's games on the current road trip, he's been under 10 minutes.
New Jersey Devils a potential landing spot for Nils Hoglander?
On Friday, Kevin Weekes of ESPN linked Nils Hoglander to a trio of teams - Columbus, Pittsburgh and Washington.
"A name generating interest in the market is @Canucks F Hoglander. He's 24, with cost certainty given his current 3Yr 3M AAV, and skilled. I'm told the Caps, Pens and CBJ are among clubs that've explored the possibility." Weekes said."
Jonathan Bailey of The Canuck Way believes that a fourth Metropolitan Division team could enter the mix to land Nils Hoglander, that being the New Jersey Devils.
"In short, the Devils need some speed, some youth, and some offense in their lower ranks." Bailey said.
He added, "Prying Hoglander from the Canucks would not only give the Devils an immediate dose of speed and injury relief, but a young depth piece who can continue to thrive with the current group of players in New Jersey. Hoglander is still only 24, and the Devils are likely to buy out or trade Palat after the season."
It's going to be interesting to monitor the Nils Hoglander situation in the coming weeks and if Patrik Allvin is able to swing a deal that could benefit the Canucks, potentially including the Swedish forward in a package to bring in a top-four defenseman.
