New Report Indicates Vancouver Canucks' Odds to Make Stanley Cup Playoffs Are Decreasing Rapidly
A new report indicates that the Vancouver Canucks' odds to make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs are decreasing rapidly amid their mediocre start to the 2025-26 season.
That optimism has quickly turned into more frustration as the Vancouver Canucks sit outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference and are sixth in the Pacific Division with only the San Jose Sharks and Calgary Flames behind them
While it's still early, 15 games into the 2025-26 season to be specific, the Vancouver Canucks are facing an uphill battle to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs and as we inch closer to American Thanksgiving later this month, we're going to get a better picture about their odds to make it to the big dance.
Vancouver Canucks' playoff odds decreasing rapidly amid mediocre start
Before the season began,
the Canucks were given -130 odds to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs by
PlayNow Sports, but with the club sitting below .500 nearly a quarter of the way through the 2025-26 season, those odds have understandably decreased.
In a recent article for The Hockey News, Adam Kierszenblat shared that most betting sites including PlayNow Sports and BetMGM have cooled off on the Vancouver Canucks and aren't expecting the club to make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The latter, BetMGM, went as far to say that they predict the Vancouver Canucks will finish the season with a total of 85 points, which is less than what they had during the 2024-25 campaign when they also missed out on the postseason.
"Just like fans, betting sites both locally and nationally believe the Canucks could be heading for another long off-season. PlayNow Sports has Vancouver at 2.75 (36.36% implied probability) while BETMGM is listed at 3.00 (33.33% implied probability) for the Canucks to make the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. BETMGM also has Vancouver finishing around 85 points this season, which would be five fewer points than the club recorded last year." Kierszenblat said.
A lot needs to go in their favour for the Vancouver Canucks to right the ship and that includes health, as a number of top players have missed time with injuries throughout the first month of the year.
It's not just Elias Pettersson that needs to be better though as others like Jake DeBrusk,
Drew O'Connor and
Evander Kane, who have a combined eight goals in 15 games, need to step up for this team in the weeks ahead.
The Canucks will look to get back to the .500 mark on Saturday night as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Hockey Night in Canada, with puck drop slated for just after 7 p.m. PT on CityTV and Sportsnet Pacific.
