An NHL insider believes that people are sleeping on the Vancouver Canucks this season and that if things go right, they have a good shot at the playoffs.

After a difficult 2024-25 campaign, which saw the club miss out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in the last five seasons, the Vancouver Canucks are hopeful that things will turn around this year.
With a new Head Coach, along with some changes made in the summer, including the addition of Evander Kane, trading Dakota Joshua and Arturs Silovs to the Toronto Maple Leafs & Pittsburgh Penguins, respectively, the Vancouver Canucks believe that this year will be different and that by the end of the season, they'll see an 'X' beside their name in the National Hockey League standings.

During a recent appearance on Sportsnet 590 radio, National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli spoke about the Vancouver Canucks and their chances at rebounding this season.
Seravalli likes what the Vancouver Canucks have, from an elite goaltending tandem to their strong defensive group and depth on forward, and believes that people are "sleeping" on the club as the 2025-26 campaign begins.
"I'll put a stake in the ground, I have the Canucks making the playoffs. I think everyone's sleeping on how good this team is from goal out. Best tandem in the league and this defense core, 1 through 4, is awesome. If Quinn Hughes is healthy and turns in another Hart Trophy-level season, which he did last year before he got hurt, then I don't see any reason why, with any modicum of combination of goals between Pettersson, DeBrusk, and Brock Boeser, that this team should be in the playoffs." Seravalli said.
Internal belief in this group is very high as well, including from General Manager Patrik Allvin, who said the following when speaking with reporters earlier this week at his season opening media availability.
"I believe in the team we have here. We all know the parity of the league and the condensed schedule didn't help, but we're very excited about the group we have here, and more so, how they have come together, and how they bought into the coaches and how we want to play. They seem to have enjoyed coming to the rink, and there's been a lot of laughs, and coming together as a team has been important for Adam [Foote]. I give the players a lot of credit." Allvin said.

He added, "I think we have a good mix here with the older guys being here in the past and seeing some of the younger guys coming up from Abbotsford and Braeden Cootes coming in from junior hockey. It's been a very inspiring training camp leading up to this point. So, I think the team is ready and the staff is ready to get going here."

It's early, but the Canucks have gotten off to a good start, opening the season with a 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames and they'll look to make it back-to-back victories tonight when they face off against Connor McDavid & the Edmonton Oilers.
