Braeden Cootes has been turning heads with the Vancouver Canucks since training camp begun, and the prospect has the opportunity to be the first 18 year old to make the opening night roster in 30 years.

Cootes scored in Friday night's tilt against the Seattle Kraken, as the Canucks went on to win 4-2.
"Vancouver's training camp is just a little over a week old at this point and already, Braeden Cootes is leaving a strong impression on the team's coaching staff, including Assistant Coach Brett McLean."-Jaxon

Braeden Cootes keeps improving his odds to crack Vancouver Canucks opening night roster.

Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet reported on how Cootes keeps making his case to make the team as a teenager. While it probably wasn't in the plans for head office, they can't deny how good he has been this early on.
"It's hard to say if Cootes is getting better by the day, but the days are getting harder as the Canucks' Oct. 9 season-opener approaches, and the right-shot centre from Edmonton and the Seattle Thunderbirds isn't getting any less noticeable."-MacIntyre

Evander Kane had high praise for the 18-year old, calling back to when he made the NHL at 18 as well back in 2009. Kane also scored in the contest to help the Canucks win Friday night.
"«I think he has the right mindset. I've listened to some of his comments in the media, and just getting to talk to him a little bit around the dressing room, he's obviously taking the experience he's a sponge -but he's not just here for experience. He's here to make a team, and that's the right attitude to have. At the end of the day, this is a business and you're trying to steal another grown man's job. That's what my dad told me going in at 18. It's a different mentality, a different mindset."-Kane

Cootes' goal is what sparked Vancouver's comeback as they were down 2-0 to Seattle early on. If he keeps going at this right there is no way his roster spot ca be denied by management.
